Grand Cayman
Grand Cayman
Grand Cayman has long been a “go to” place to dive for those seeking comfort, good diving and convenience. The island is developed with music festivals and tourists from around the world. This place is not “off the beaten path” though for those who love more rustic hideouts. There are attractions like Stingray City, the Kittiwake wreck, nice walls and swim-throughs in a convenient setting for divers of all types. I would say this is any easy place to go with friends and relax. The diving is not too challenging, the weather and water temperatures are comfortable.
Friends and I stayed at the Cobalt Coast Resort and Suites. The place was set up for divers. The food, rooms, and service were good. When conditions were calm, the boat picked us up at the dock and took us on 15-45 minute boat rides to local sites.
Time to Go
November to April is considered the drier season with trade winds blowing. At times the winds can present challenges for boats and divers. The rainier season is May through November, with hurricane season running from June to November.
I happened to book the reservations for my group through Bluewater Dive Travel who I have used for a number of group bookings and individual trips. They have been professional and dependable – and the rate is comparable whether you rent rooms direct from most resorts or use a dive travel agent.
Getting there
Flights are easy from the US and Miami in particular.
